Purpose:The purpose of this program is to establish procedures for the selection, use, and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment for employees of JCJ Services, LLC, located in Glastonbury, Connecticut.

Scope: This program covers JCJ Services, LLC employees who may be required to wear respiratory protection. Situations that may require the use of respiratory protection include the following:

1. Entry into areas where the air concentrations may exceed acceptable levels.
2. Operations where the use of engineering controls are not feasible or do not adequately reduce employee exposures to hazardous materials.

Definitions

Air Purifying Respirators: These respirators use filters or cartridges that filter or capture air contaminants. These respirators cannot be worn in atmospheres that are immediately dangerous to life and health, contain less than 19.5% oxygen, or protection against gases and vapors with poor odor warning properties.

Air Supplying Respirators: These respirators supply air to the wearer. The air source may be contained in self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) or supplied by an air line hose connected to a compressor or cylinders of compressed air. The air must meet the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) Specifications for Grade D breathing air (G7.1 1966).

Purpose: This procedure establishes the requirements for the lockout or tagout of energy isolating devices whenever maintenance or servicing is conducted on machines or equipment at JCJ Services, LLC. It shall be used to ensure that the machine or equipment is shut down, isolated from all potentially hazardous energy sources and locked out or tagged out before employees perform any servicing or maintenance where there is the possibility of unexpected startup of the machine or equipment or release of stored energy which could cause injury.

Policy: Lock-out shall be used to assure deactivation of equipment and maintain it in a condition during maintenance or servicing of equipment or when accidental activation could create a hazardous condition. If lockout is not possible due to the configuration of the equipment, tag-out, as defined below, may be used as a substitution. This procedure applies to both in-house and contractor work.

It shall be the responsibility of JCJ Services, LLC to assure that the Lockout/Tagout Program is implemented.

Definitions

Affected Employee: An employee whose job requires him/her to operate or use a machine or equipment on which servicing or maintenance is being performed under lockout or tagout, or whose job requires him/her to work in an area in which such servicing or maintenance is being performed.

Authorized Employee: A person who locks or tags out equipment

Basis: About 32 million workers are potentially exposed to one or more chemical hazards on a daily basis. There are approximately 1 million existing chemical products and hundreds of new ones being introduced annually. The OSHA Hazard Communication Regulatory Standard establishes requirements to make sure that the hazards of all chemicals imported into, produced, or used in U.S. workplaces are evaluated and that this hazard information is transmitted to all affected workers.

General: JCJ Services, LLC wants to ensure that the hazards of all chemicals used in our work are evaluated and that information concerning their hazards is transmitted to everyone exposed to them. This program is intended to address the issues of evaluating the potential hazards of chemicals, communicating information concerning these hazards, and establishing appropriate protective measures for everyone exposed to them.

Regulatory Standard: OSHA 29 CFR 1910.6, 29 CFR 1910.128, 129, 130, 131, (Proposed), 29 CFR 1926.104, 29 CFR 1926.500-503

Basis: Approximately 300,000 disabling injuries occur in work-related falls each year. 85% of workers surviving falls lose time from their jobs. The OSHA Safety Regulatory Standards establish uniform requirements to make sure that the hazards associated with elevated falls in U.S. workplaces are evaluated and that this hazard information is transmitted to all affected workers.

General: JCJ Services, LLC. requires that the hazards of all elevated falls over 6 feet in height are evaluated and that information concerning their hazards is transmitted to all pertinent employees. This safety program is intended to address comprehensively the issues of evaluating potential fall hazards, communicating information concerning these hazards, and establishing appropriate protective measures for employees.
